Florida residents can consult www.floir.com, the website of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, for more information about this license. The same was true when we checked the license listings for the state of Texas, which are administered by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). It should be noted that for customers in a number of states a home warranty issued by a HomeSure of America or Cross Country Home Services company may be contracted with a company aside from HMS National Inc. It is important to check the contract or brochure prior to searching for licensing information in case the state you reside in lists the company under a name aside from HomeSure of America Inc. Some states do not oversee or regulate home warranty contracts and thus residents of some U.S. states may find that doing business with a company such as HMS National Inc. does not entail any state’s laws, regulations, licensing, or permits.

For readers who already have a sample contract and want to know more about coverage options HMS lists a telephone number on their website where consumers can get assistance. At the time of this article’s publication new home warranty coverage was not for sale online to home owners but was available to real estate professionals. Normally our home warranty company profiles contain at least some basic information about the coverage but in the case of HMS’s home warranty options they vary according to the home’s location and in some states coverage options and coverage details may vary considerably from other states. HMS offers home warranties throughout the 48 continental U.S. states as well as the District of Columbia.
Home inspection is not a requirement for consumers buying an HMS home warranty plan, even when involved in a real estate transaction. A home inspection is recommended by HMS though and in the case of a real estate transaction it may be required by a party aside from the home warranty company.
Coverage is available for single family homes as well as multiple family structures.
Cancellation, by default, is not an option for some types of customers including those involved in a real estate transaction but some states override this with their own laws or regulations governing home warranty contracts.
The service fee, also referred to by some as a deductible, is charged to a home owner each time a service provider visits the home for evaluation or repair of a problem. This applies to each unique trade and each unique visit. For example if one plumbing technician and one electrical technician were required for a repair and they both visited a home covered by and HMS home warranty on two occasions then there would be a total of four service fees charged to the home owner.
Social Media Activity
During our research we found social media posts on Facebook and Twitter which belonged to individual users. But we found no evidence of company sponsored Facebook pages or Twitter accounts for HMS Home Warranty, HMS National Inc., or Cross Country Home Services. Social media including Facebook, Twitter, and blogs has become a much more popular way for companies to interact with consumers and in some cases home owners may use social media in much the same way they use reviews and ratings sites. Consumers may also search for coupons and discounts offered by companies to their social media followers. In the case of HMS National and its related companies social media may be a work in progress but as of the time that this article was published it does not appear that the companies are leveraging it.
Testimonials, Reviews, and Ratings
We were able to find a large number of online reviews, ratings, and complaints on various websites. Readers interested in knowing specifics can choose from many different open forums and ratings websites where consumers have posted their feedback about HMS National Inc, HomeSure, and various other related companies. Since this is such a large family of companies and since many of them have been around for decades it should be possible to get at least some feedback from people you know. This is typically the most reliable information a home owner can get about home warranty companies. Real estate agents can also be a good source of information since they often arrange home warranty referrals for their clients. Many of the online reviews we found for HMS companies were decidedly negative while others were very positive. This is common among home warranty reviews and ratings and can make it difficult for consumers to decide whether or not to do business with a particular home warranty company. For this reason we recommend making online reviews and ratings just one small part of the list of considerations used to choose a home warranty company. Websites such as homewarrantyreviews.com can provide a great deal of consumer feedback about a host of different home warranty companies, making these websites valuable to home owners seeking advice about home warranty companies. Complaint websites can also provide a great deal of consumer feedback and at times can show a company’s effort to assist angry customers. In the end though it is very difficult to put a value on online reviews since most of them are posted by people the reader does not know personally. One thing that is useful in online reviews and complaints, when there are many of them available, is to look for trends in the statements made by customers. Though not all reviews are fair and unbiased it is hard to deny certain attributes of those reviews when they are repeated often enough. Some complaints, such as those collected and compiled on BBB’s website, are verified and dealt with thoroughly in order to judge their validity. For this reason, looking at complaint statistics from BBB can be a good point of comparison.
In terms of being well established HMS National Inc has been around for many years. Where licensing is a concern for home owners, this company seems to be playing by the rules set by states that oversee home warranty companies. The amount of information available online and perhaps through friends, relatives, neighbors, or real estate professionals is also very good and should suffice for any home owner considering this home warranty company or one of its related companies. The highest risk home warranty companies tend to be ones that fail in one of these first three categories, those being company age, licensing and compliance, or consumer feedback availability. There are other concerns though and for consumers considering doing business with HMS National Inc. we would recommend comparing the contract with others available from other home warranty companies. One item of particular concern would be the number of service call fees that a customer might incur during a single claim. Some home warranty companies only charge one service call fee and some others only charge one per repair profession. But customers of HMS National may incur many more service call charges and they can add up to a lot of money in the case of a repair that is not resolved in one or two visits or that involves more than one or two professional repair skills. Though HMS National appears to be a completely legitimate home warranty company its home warranty contracts also may be more expensive than other suitable home warranty options.
